The City of Eindhoven is very committed to supporting the knowledge economy in the region through continuous innovation. In order to set and achieve its ambitions in this area, it has initiated the Brainport Eindhoven Foundation – a truly triple helix entity bringing together local and regional public authorities, academic and private knowledge institutions and private enterprises with an objective to jointly work on the implementation of the “Brainport Strategy – beyond Lisbon”.
Eindhoven can contribute to this project through its experience from:
- A number of excellent clusters in the field of Life Tech, mechatronics and automotive,
- The challenges and opportunities of cross border networking on innovation strategies and their implementation.
- The implementation of the principles of open innovation as an approach stimulating cluster development in, for example, the High Tech Campus and the Design Campus in Eindhoven.
The city will benefit from the project by strengthening in house expertise and experience on innovation and cluster policies within the local administration. As a medium sized city Eindhoven is very much aware of the need to look beyond its borders and forge partnerships and cluster on a higher scale, in order to create critical economic mass be able to continue to compete successfully in the global market as a knowledge centre.
