City of Helsinki, Economic and Planning Centre, Business development

The Economic and Planning Centre of the City of Helsinki serves the top management of the City and the city departments. The Centre is in charge of preparing and matching the objectives and strategy alternatives related to developing the city.

 

The Business Development Unit is responsible for planning and developing the city’s business environment. The unit promotes enterpreneurship, develops the region’s competitiveness, promotes regional co-operation and supports the city’s policy makers.

 

The Business development unit supports cluster building in the Helsinki region. Cluster building is one of the focus areas in the Helsinki Business development strategy  published in 2007. The City of Helsinki is one of the owners of the regional development company Culminatum Innovation, which is in charge of the Centre of Expertise Programme within the Helsinki region during 2007-2013.

 

The programme covers nine cluster fields in the region:

  • Digital Content business
  • Environmental Technology
  • Food Processing Development
  • Health Bio Living
  • Nano and Microsystems and Future Materials
  • Tourism and experience Industry
  • Ubiquitous computing
  • Well Being
