LEIPZIG
The city of Leipzig works hard to support its future industries. To catalyse Leipzig’s economy in the medium term as effectively as possible, the Office for Economic Development attaches particular importance to long-term cluster development. Under the motto ‘strengthening the strengths’, key emphasis is placed on five high-growth sectors whose foundations are already in place and which are ripe for further development:
- Healthcare, biotech, medical equipment and life sciences
- Energy and environmental engineering
- Car production and the automotive components industry
- Enabling technologies and services
- The media, telecoms and IT
The development strategy of Leipzig is to focus on the diversified nature of its economic structure and cluster support is an element element in this approach.
Leipzig will contribute to this project with the experience of cluster experts from the Office of Economic Development for which cluster development is of strategic importance. Through the exchange of best practice with project partners, we will contribute to the improvement of policy efficiency in member cities and will mobilise the local clusters to facilitate inter-cluster linking. Leipzig will gain from the project through the improvement of policy officer skills and perhaps more importantly, by helping our clusters establish contact with clusters in other European Cities.
